earth as material of memory

I am drawn to objects that seem to carry a history. A fragment discovered in the earth. An ancient form whose original purpose is no longer known. A surface marked by time. I seek to create pieces that seem to have existed before us — objects that feel discovered rather than manufactured.

FRAGMENTS OF EARTh

Chamotte stoneware allows me to work with the material in a more direct and instinctive way. I mix different clays, chamotte, powders and sands, and work the surfaces with vitrified slips. Each firing transforms the material and reveals different traces.
